Why is Elon Musk Accessing sensitive Federal Data Without Oversight
Let's break this down: 5 U.S.C. § 552a(b) (Privacy Act of 1974) explicitly states, "No agency shall disclose any record which is contained in a system of records by any means of communication to any person, or to another agency, except pursuant to a written request by, or with the prior written consent of, the individual to whom the record pertains." There are only 12 narrow exceptions under which this kind of data access can be allowed, and none of them seem to justify Musk's situation.
So, why is Elon Musk—a private citizen with no security clearance, no background check, and no government employment—able to access sensitive data from the OPM and SSA databases, including private Social Security, Medicare, and payment information belonging to millions of Americans? This isn't just an ethical concern—it's a likely violation of federal privacy laws.
Let's not forget: the Privacy Act was created to prevent exactly this type of unauthorized disclosure. The law is designed to protect personal information and ensure no individual's data is accessed or shared without consent or proper legal justification. Allowing Musk access violates the very foundation of that law unless the government is exploiting some loophole under the guise of "government contracting" or "emergency purposes."
Even if Musk were working under a government contract, where is the oversight? Where is the background check to ensure he isn't using this data for his personal gain or commercial advantage, especially given his vast financial ties and business dealings—many of which involve China and other international stakeholders? Without strict controls, this access could be a dangerous precedent leading to future misuse of sensitive information.
Let's be clear: this isn't just a lapse in judgment—it's likely unlawful. The Privacy Act allows for civil actions against improper disclosures and congressional scrutiny. Are we really going to stand by and let private citizens play with federal databases as if they're personal spreadsheets? We deserve answers. Which exception under § 552a(b) is Musk's access falling under—or is this a blatant violation of federal privacy protections? Congress, the OPM, and the SSA must provide transparency now!

Trump-Musk Coup On Government Agencies, Locking Officials & Staffers Out
Computers hold personal Information and payout information, including Social Security and Medicare.
Reuters reports that DOGE (sometimes referred to by some of us as 'doggy' & 'douche') aides of Elon Musk have locked staffers of a U.S. government human resources agency out of the computer systems with millions of employees' personal information.
Even the senior officials of the Office of Personnel Management have had their access to the data systems revoked.
"We have no visibility into what they are doing with the computer and data systems," one of the officials said. "That is creating great concern. There is no oversight. It creates real cybersecurity and hacking implications."
There is now, since Trump's firing of government Inspectors General, NO oversight of either Trump OR Musk.
One key database, the OPM officials cited, is Enterprise Human Resources Integration, which has "all of the birthdates, Social Security numbers, appraisals, home addresses, pay grades and lengths of service of government workers."
The Office of Personnel Management is a nonpartisan agency that manages the federal workforce, and would typically be consulted ahead of significant personnel changes. They were not informed of this proposal, people familiar with the situation told The Washington Post.
In the weeks since Trump took office, Musk has moved to take control of the office, according to the Post. He visited the office on Friday and put several of his longtime allies in key positions.
Musk had sofa beds brought into the OPM office to ensure his personal team could work non-stop. The area can only be accessed with a special security badge or a security escort, an OPM employee said.
That includes Anthony Armstrong, who helped Musk buy Twitter, according to the Post. Others include Brian Bjelde from SpaceX and Amanda Scales who worked at a Musk AI firm. The trio are now in leadership positions in the office.
Musk's team also built the system that sent 2.3 million government employees an email last week offering buyouts to anyone who voluntarily leaves their job. That system did not exist before Trump took office, the Post noted.
The email was very similar to one sent by Musk to Twitter employees after he took over.
DOGE was originally created to "supply ideas" to Trump on "cutting governement waste". This was changed by Executive Order by Trump on his first day of office, to "upgrading IT services".
Apparently this is what was intended. For Musk to physically take over computers storing sensitive information, and locking the government agencies in charge of it OUT.
What happens next is not known.
Meanwhile, the highest-ranking career Treasury official resigned today (Friday) over DOGE access to sensitive payment systems, including Social Security and Medicare.
David A. Lebryk, who has served in nonpolitical roles at the Treasury Department since 1989, the Washington Post reported. He was appointed as acting treasury secretary by President Donald Trump until Scott Bessent was confirmed.
Lebryk had a dispute with DOGE officials over access to payment systems that disburse trillions of dollars for government services, including Social Security and Medicare. The system also pays out tax refunds, salaries for federal workers, and payments to government contractors.
DOGE officials have been asking for access to the system since the election.
Why they want it, and what they intend to do, is also not known.
UPDATE - Trump announced at 5pm Friday a "PAUSE" of all Government websites, effective immediately. Some departments have already gone dark, while unknown changes are being made.

Fred Trump (Drumpf) was an anchor baby, son of German immigrants
Fred Trump was conceived in Germany, after his father, Friedrich Trump or Drumpf, returned to his native land to marry and settle down, having earned a small fortune running a brothel during the Klondike Gold Rush in Canada. So much for his being an American citizen at the time. Is there any evidence that he ever obtained an American citizenship?
The Trumps were evicted from Germany for draft dodging and income tax evasion, and thus became homeless refugees. The United States welcomed them, but according to Donald, his German father was an anchor baby and his family became chain migrationists, since his mother was born in Scotland and only became an American citizen by marrying an anchor baby. - by Mike BurchThe Trump Family's Immigrant Story | HISTORY
Friedrich Trump came to the United States amid a flood of Germans—nearly 1 million made the journey to settle in America between 1880 and 1885. It was, the Times reported, "the start of an adventurous life as a barber, restaurateur, saloonkeeper, hotelier, entrepreneur, gold rush prospector, shipwreck survivor and New York real-estate investor."
He married a woman from his German hometown, Kallstadt, where his parents had owned vineyards, and attempted to return home with the small fortune he'd made in New York, Seattle and the Yukon. But when his draft dodging came to the fore, the couple lost their Bavarian citizenship and were obliged to return to America for good. There, they had three children: Trump's father, Fred (and anchor baby), was the middle child. Born in the Bronx borough of New York City in 1905.

WOW: Bishop Calls Out Trump To His Face at Church
WOW! The convicted felon president just got called out by the female Bishop at church with his whole family in attendance. Trump's looks reminded me of a little child getting scolded by his elder. I love this Bishop for speaking up and calling out the convicted felon in chief.
Trump birthright citizenship executive order
Birthright citizenship is protected by the U.S. Constitution, and the order already faces legal challenges.
Trump ordered agencies (starting 30 days after the order) not to recognize babies as citizens if their mothers were "unlawfully present" at the time of birth and their father was not a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident.
That also applies to children born to mothers who were lawful, temporary residents and fathers who were not citizens or lawful permanent residents.
