Hope Hooper and Dick Watmough were two of the major players in the Runnymede Colony. Hooper was the force behind building the Runnymede Hotel. Watmough owned several businesses and wrote a column for the Harper paper under the name "The Bird of Truth". Watmough died tragically in a stable fire on the eve of his return to England to get married. -- courtesy of Jim Richey & Kansas State Historical Society
